Playing Original Melodic Contemporary jazz with World and Latin Flavours, the Brigitte Beraha Trio/Group is an imaginative vocal-led Modern Jazz Ensemble who sidesteps obvious Standards to tackle lyrical material.  The music, mainly written by Brigitte Beraha but also by other band members, is very much influenced by Brigitte's multi-lingual background and by the likes of John Surman, John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler and Azimuth, Chick Corea, Milton Nascimento and Hermeto Pascoal. The Ensemble, fronted by a vocalist singing songs with lyrics, also becomes an instrumental group when the voice is used as an instrument, allowing to blend in with the trumpet and fluegelhorn so as to create a unique soundscape.

“The earlier Sunday afternoon slot featured an animated performance from the Brigitte Beraha Trio, in which elements of Norma Winstone, Flora Purim and playful French chanson each found avenues of expression.” [On afternoon E17jazz festival], Joseph Kassman-Tod, Jazzwise, 22nd September 2009

"The opening night twinned bassist Dave Mannington’s flowing acoustic quartet with the electronica trio Ma. Both benefited from guests, Brigitte Beraha’s wordless vocals giving Mannington’s 1960s modernism a novel slant, while Steve Argüelles on laptop and electronics transformed Ma."
Mike Hobart, Financial Times, February 16th 2009 [on the Loop Festival gigs at the Vortex]

"The Dave Manington Quartet ushered in the festival with nods towards Latin, funk and bop. Guest vocalist, Brigitte Beraha ethereal, Floria Purim influenced layers of harmony complimented tenor saxophonist, Mark Hanslip's melodic expressions."Joseph Kassman-Tod, Vortex Jazz Club, February 09 [on the Loop Fest gig]

Formed in 2009, Flight Brigade deliver wickedly memorable songs that burst with heart-felt energy. Their sound revolves around the song-writing talents of singer Oliver Baines. Growing up in Ohio and New York, Baines later moved to Southeast England where he met violinist Dorry Hughes and her sister Miriam (accordion, melodica and glockenspiel). The trio teamed up with musician friends from college, Brigitte Beraha (piano & backing vocals), Thomas Pink (guitar), Neil Blandford (drums) and Tom Clay (bass), to form the seven piece line-up.

Citing inspiration from Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Fairport Convention and James Taylor, their debut album, ‘Planes Trains and Motor vehicles’, is highly melodic and full of uplifting tunes alongside moments of powerful poignancy.

In the last few months Will and Brigitte have started a new collaboration, focusing on writing new songs with a pure and accessible sound, as an antidote to the occasionally over complicated music they come across.  Influenced as ever by modern European jazz music, but also by the likes of John Martin, Nick Drake, Sufjan Stevens, Joanna Newsom, Billie Holiday and Django Reinhart.
